Parking & Location:

There will be parking available in the Milford Centre car park and for those that want a picturesque walk along the lake front, also at the Milford Primary School. If you intend to park in Henderson Park, please respect the swan breeding program and DO NOT come along the lake front. It is closed until December!

There will be NO Parking in Sylvan Park Ave and the road will be closed to all but locals. Please respect the residents of the surrounding streets and do not park over driveways or on their grass berms.

Disabled Parking: There will be sufficient disabled parking in Sylvan Park for those unable or unfit to make the walk up the drive, no pre booking necessary please notify the security staff at the bottom of Sylvan Park Ave and they will be able to direct you to your parking.

There will be ample space for rugs & pillows on the grass area in front of the stage. We do ask that you refrain from bringing raised chairs along out of respect for other audience members view of the stage.

In saying that, we do understand that getting seated on low on the ground is one thing, but getting up is whole another story for many of us! Therefore if you do need to bring along a chair, please do so and one of our marshalls will show you to a space where you can have your chairs - this will be near the sides of the park so not to block views, we appreciate your understanding in advance.

On your bike!

Dust off those two wheels and you could be in for a treat! We have teamed up with Auckland Transport to ensure that biking to this event is as rewarding as possible!

There'll be a bike rack handy as you enter the event, and even a mechanic on site to check everything is safe and sound for your ride home!

Event History:

When Fred and Mary Thomas were Mayor and Mayoress of the Takapuna City Council many years ago, Mary arranged a Carols by Candlelight event on the shores of Lake Pupuke by the Takapuna Pumphouse. This event was well attended by local North Shore residents and held in high regard.

The Milford Business Association (MBA) has had a relationship with the Auckland Symphony Orchestra (ASO) for the last 5 years assisting with sponsorship of the ASO Free Family concerts at the Bruce Mason Centre.

With the passing of Mary 3 years ago, the ASO and the MBA thought it would be a fitting memorial to Mary to recreate that family Christmas event with the ASO playing Christmas music at the picturesque lakeside setting of Sylvan Park.

Coincidently, Mary’s son, Peter Thomas, is the conductor and Music Director of the ASO, and 8 members of the ASO (a voluntary organisation) live in Milford. We see all of us being involved in making this event come to life as a perfect fit.
