The Beach

Milford beach is located not far from the shopping centre, with its beautiful white sand and spectacular views of Rangitoto Island, it really is a great place to unwind.

Milford beach, like most North Shore beaches, is safe place for the whole family to take a dip, with beautiful calm waters. Milford point of difference is its unspoiled environment, you’ll rarely find yourself crowded and struggling for space, or stumbling across liter.

The Milford beach really is the perfect place to take some time out, either on your own, or with the family.

Lake Pupuke

Lake Pupuke which is actually one of oldest volcanoes in Auckland, is thought by some experts to be around 150’000 years old! Rowing, dragon boating and windsurfing are popular activities on the lake and are also great to watch.

The lake is regularly stocked with both rainbow and brown trout, if you wish to try your luck (or skills) out fishing you first need to purchase a fishing license or you could be hooking yourself a hefting fine. Shore line fishing is very limited, it may be a good idea to take out a kayak or row boat. Sylvan Park in Milford is known to be a popular fishing location, there’s also plenty of room for the kids to play, letting you focus on catching dinner! Make sure you take note of the fishing regulations for the local quantity and size regulations.

It is possible to walk the entire circumference of the lake. Although it is not possible to walk the entire track by the lake side, those parts on the lake edge truly make up for it. It takes approximately 90 minutes to walk the lake edge, the track is about 7km long, so why not reward yourself with a coffee at one of our fantastic cafes afterwards.

Te Araroa Walkway

A great way to get to know the North Shore coastlines is to take a walk along our fabulous Te Araroa beach side walking track which runs from Torbay right down through Milford, finishing in Torbay.

From Takapuna you can walk right along the coast line to Milford, taking in the breath taking views of Rangitoto Island on your way to shop at some of the best and most unique boutique stores on the North Shore.

Please take caution when using this track as some parts can only be accessed at low tides, the track can also be slippery and dangerous in ill weather. The walkway crosses some private property so please be respectful when using these areas, without the good will of property owners we would not be able to access this walkway.
